Rotorua Lakes High School is
a co-educational school with a roll of 700-750 Year 9 to Year 13 students.  It is situated on a picturesque site above the eastern shores of Lake Rotorua within a 10 minute drive of the city of Rotorua.

a caring and disciplined place offering high quality learning with a commitment to the individual needs of its students.  Academic excellence is a major goal and our school has a reputation for achieving success with National Examinations.

Rotorua Lakes High School offers
a wide range of co-curricular activities catering for the cultural and sporting development of its students.  These include approximately 36 sporting codes and cultural activities which include Music, Drama, Public Speaking, etc.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS
There are no English language proficiency requirements for admission to Rotorua Lakes High School.  Students will be placed on an English for Speakers of Other Language s (ESOL) Course determined by results of assessment testing taken during orientation.

ESOL COURSES
ESOL courses range from Basic to an Advanced Level of English using both external internationally recognised Pitmans and IELTS Examinations and New Zealand Certificate in Educational Achievement (NCEA) qualifications.

Preparation for the IELTS Examination (or equivalent NCEA credits) for entry into a New Zealand University is offered to those students who have achieved a 1st Class Pass in the ESOL Pitmans Intermediate Examination.

FOUNDATION CLASSES
Foundation classes in mainstream subjects are offered to senior students, Year 11 and 12, who commence studies in the second semester (Term 3) to prepare them for the commencement of the following academic year.

MAINSTREAM CLASS SUPPORT
Students are supported in their chosen mainstream subject classes, by trained ESOL Teacher Aides, who ensure that the students understand the course content.

SCHOOL FEES   PAYABLE

Successful applicants will have their place at the school reviewed every three months and parents will be informed of their progress at this time.  The school reserves the right to withdraw a student should his/her conduct or progress contravene standards set by the school.  In cases such as these, NO refund of fees will be given.  School fees need to be paid in advance.

The school fees are as follows:
BASIC COSTS FOR ONE YEAR

A.  School Fees

    Subject and external exam fees                 NZ$500.00
B.  Accommodation                                     NZ$10,000.00
(NZ Immigration requirement for living expenses)
C.  Insurance (if school arranging)              NZ$449.00
D.  Airport Transfer                                          NZ$140.00
E.  Guardianship                                                 NZ$40.00

Note:  These costs are subject to alteration according to fluctuations to the cost of living and government charges.

Students supply their own uniform and stationery.  Fees must be paid prior to enrolment.  The NZ Immigration Authorities will only issue student study Visas for the period for which fees have been paid.

ENROLMENT INFORMATION

Deans at each form level are in charge of enrolling new students.  New year nine students are normally enrolled in October in the preceding year.  Other enrolments are done as the need arises.  Deans can provide all the necessary details on any matters that arise, including such things as option choice, timetables and examination entries.

Deans are often the first line of contact between home and school.  A phone call can easily arrange an appointment with a Dean.

ENROLMENT THROUGH   THE  SCHOOL LANGUAGE CENTRE

On entry each student is assessed and placed in an E.S.O.L (English for speakers of other languages) course at an appropriate level.

An extensive E.S.O.L programme at all levels is available.  A student who is a beginner will participate in a full programme for a number of weeks until ready to enter mainstream classes.  For the first year while students are in mainstream classes they are assisted by a Teacher Aide who will help with the interpretation of classroom instructions and understanding of the subject content of the lesson.

Rotorua Lakes High School is a signatory of the Ministry of Educations Code of Practice.

Full details of visa and permit requirements, advice on rights to employment in New Zealand while studying, and reporting requirements are available through the New Zealand Immigration Service, and can be viewed on their website at www.immigration.govt.nz.
