MOUNTAIN BIKE  RELAY

Preliminary Notice

  • All riders in each first placed team in all divisions received an Ultimo Biking Top especially designed for the event
  • Spot prizes for Competitors
  • Security at car park area

AIM

To promote a mountain biking experience for all levels of skill through team involvement and fair competition.

PARTICIPATION

bullet The relay is open to students at all secondary schools throughout New Zealand.
bullet The inaugural event in 1994 attracted 18 teams.  Participation has grown to just about 60 teams.
bullet Teams have travelled from Northland to Marlborough over recent years.
bullet Because team composition ranges from novice to expert, we aim to cater for all levels when the track is organised.

Race Information
bullet Teams ride as may laps of the circuit track as possible, in the time allowed.  Male and Mixed Open teams ride for 3 hourse, female teams for 2 hours.
bullet Male and Mixed Open teams consist of 4 riders, female teams consist of 3 riders. The riders may ride up to two consecutive laps before another team member takes over.
bullet The winning team in each division receives a trophy, with each rider in that team receiving a winners' mountain bike top especially designed for the event.
bullet Also each rider in the first three teams in each division receives a medal.

WHO ORGANISES IT
bullet The Rotorua Lakes High School Friends of the School (FOTS) organises the event to raise funds for the school.
bullet Supported by the Rotorua Mountain Bike Club who set up the course, assist with safety procedures and marshalling on the day.

LOCATION
bullet Within the Whakarewarewa Forest, adjacent to Rotorua City.  The circuit utilises a portion of the extensive, purpose-built mountain bike tracks.  These tracks are nationally and internationally recognised.
