RLHS caters for learners with special needs in a variety of ways.

There is a strong emphasis across the school on building awareness and knowledge in the effective use of student achievement information (ERO 2016)

Students with Special Needs and their families are welcome at RLHS where we have a ‘student centered’ approach. We work with students who have specific, identified needs, their families and contributing schools as well as other agencies in a transition process to ensure ongoing support of learning and development. Support may include additional tuition in literacy and numeracy, assistive technology, reader / writer or other specialist support according to eligibility.

Students with high and very high needs have Individual Education Plans (IEPS) which specify learning goals, support and how achievement is to be measured.

Ohaua, the Special Needs Centre, is available to those who require highly specialized support in addition to or instead of general classes. As students’ progress through the year levels, thee school provides a range of academic and vocational pathways according to student achievement and needs. Students with high and very high needs will also take part in transition process in the final year of school, working with outside providers nominated by the students and their families.
