Rotorua Lakes High School offers its students a wide variety of individual and team sports. Many of our ex students have gone on to represent the province and their country in their chosen sport.
Athletics, swimming and cross-country events are held during the year and students are selected to represent the school at provincial and national events in these sports. Summer team sports include tennis, water polo, rowing, touch and waka ama.
The school fields a number of rugby, netball, hockey, soccer and basketball teams during the winter.
Other sports offered include golf, mountain biking, windsurfing, stand up paddleboarding, softball, multisport, skiing, equestrian, triathlon, squash, table tennis, volleyball, small bore rifle shooting, Friday fishing, badminton, crossfit and lawn bowls.
The school is particularly strong in squash, mountain biking, gymnastics, trampoline and indoor bouldering.
All students are encouraged to participate in sports and at the start of each season meetings are held and practices arranged.
The school is grateful to the parents and teachers who help coach and manage these sports. Interhouse sports are also organised at different times during the year.
The Squash Courts are used during school time by students (and after school if a Club member). Correct PE gear and white-soled non-marking shoes must be worn.
Each year a girls and boys team compete in the Bay of Plenty Secondary Teams Championships and Bay of Plenty Secondary Individual Championships, and our girls’ team competes at the New Zealand Secondary Schools Nationals. We have had players selected in the NZ Secondary Schools Team at the Nationals.
We are very fortunate to have on staff an A Grade squash player Miss Alana Sincock who coaches any keen students after school.
This facility provides a 70m by 30m all-weather surface with four tennis and netball courts along with a ¾ size hockey field. The turf is used regularly by students from both our school and those in the district.
COVERED NETBALL COURTS
Our 2 sealed netball courts have been upgraded with a new all weather cover with lighting which will be invaluable for night and wet weather trainings.
